Elementary school day will be from 7:50-3:25 every day through the end of the school year. Buses will run at 3:25 and Parent Pickup will start at 3:25. I would like to address absences with all of you. Right now we are experiencing students out sick quite a bit. I am attaching to this informative letter how we address absences at school. It will address what to do when a student is out sick, excessive absences, 90% rule etc. Let me tell you that in dealing with absences there sometimes seems to be a mystery on how things are addressed. First and foremost, if a child is running a fever keep them home until they are fever free for 24 hours. If they are experiencing other symptoms, like throwing up and other issues, keep them home until they are symptom free. If you take them to a doctor please get documentation that you took them and turn that in when they return. A phone call is always appreciated from a parent when a student is going to be out. If they are going to be out for an extended time please let us know. With all of that being said, the state of Texas, does have some rules and regulations in regards to absences. The most obvious law I have to address as the principal is the 90% rule of attendance. A student has to be in attendance 90% of the time. For simplicity that usually means a student can not have no more than 18 absences in a school year. That seems like a great deal of absences but they can add up pretty quick. For those students who have accrued double digit absences as of this date, I will be sending out a letter. If you receive a letter please do not hesitate to contact me so we can address any issues. For those students who fall into the category of being over the 90% attendance rate threshold I will address that with the student and the parent and take ALL things into consideration. Again if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. https://5il.co/cqs6

Greetings to all of the Pirate Nation. It was really nice to see how much this community came together for the Tosha Smith Daniel family in light of the recent tragedy that struck that family. That is a characteristic of this community. All of the family will remain in our thoughts and prayers. Football is coming off of the bye week and they are headed to Valley Mills this Friday. This is a rivalry that goes back many a moon. Come out and support the Pirates on the start of district play. Come early and take in the volleyball game as the Lady Pirates are in the thick of their district play. Game time for volleyball is 4:30 and kick-off is at 7:30. You know the saying, all together now, "Come early, stay late and always be loud." The first six weeks came to an end and this starts off our 1st Annual GPA Championship. All varsity sports are involved as long as there are at least 5 members to a team. We will take the overall GPA for each team and at the end of the year crown one winner for GPA Champion. A reminder that on Monday October 14th there will be no school. Wednesday October 16 is the day of the Junior High District Cross Country meet and it will be held at the HOT complex in Waco. Also on that day is the PSAT test and it will be administered to 9th - 11th graders on campus. Thursday, October 17th is the Varsity and JV District meet and it will also be held at the HOT complex. Later on this month, Friday, October 25th, at the half time of the Crawford/Deleon game we will recognize the 2019 State 2A Softball Champions. I want you to encourage your children who are students at Crawford High School to make sure they are always doing the right thing. We want and expect a standard of excellence in all things we do. There have been too many who have come before us who have set this standard for us to let it slip in the least bit. This excellence of standard is a measurement of all things no matter how small. I am a firm believer that if you take care of the little things the big things in life will take care of themselves. I will leave you with this. " You build trust with others each time you choose integrity over image, truth over convenience, or honor over personal gain." John C. Maxwell

Representatives from Crawford FCCLA went to Valley Mills Elementary this morning to present some money they raised for the family of Lily Avant. The girls met with Principal, Chris Dowdy, and the Assistant Principal, Joanie Moody. The organization had made bracelets that said #lilystrong. In doing this the group raised over $550 dollars to donate. Our thoughts and prayers are still with our friends in Valley Mills as they are mourning the loss of their student. Thank you to Crawford FCCLA for taking the initiative to step up and show kindness and help out when it is needed!
Well mark another successful Homecoming Parade (HOCO) in the books. What a turn out by the Crawford community. The support this community gives this school is simply the best. Angie Slaughter did a fantastic job of getting the HOCO parade organized and all of the participants lined up. There were many entries into the parade and their participation is greatly appreciated as well. Now let's talk Senior Slide show. Again another awesome effort in putting together the photographs submitted by the students for the slide show. Kim Buie, Yearbook Editor, truly does an amazing job of putting these photos to music. It is hard to keep a dry eye when watching these slideshows. I can only imagine what it is like as a parent each year. Both the HOCO parade and the Senior Slideshow were truly fun to be a part of. Friday night is the HOCO game vs Rogers. Game time is 7:30 p.m., come out and support the Pirates as they take on the Rogers Eagles. The football sweetheart will also be named at half time. A special shout out to Billy Witt for using his customized 1952 Chevy pickup to carry the football sweetheart around the field at half. Next Tuesday, Oct.1, is the annual volleyball Pink Out game to help fight cancer and further cancer research. Their will be a silent auction during the earlier games and there will be homemade goodies for sale as well. Come out and support the number one volleyball team in Class 2A as they take on Abbott. There will be 3 games starting at 5 pm. On Monday morning during our tutorial time and group will be on campus to help get students who are eligible to vote registered so they will be able to take part in the voting process during the next election cycle. The PSAT test will be administered at Crawford High School on October 16. This test is for students in grades 9-11. The cost is $17 and the deadline to register is Friday, October 4 at 3:30 pm. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) will go to the Fields of Faith event on Wednesday October 2nd ,at the Waco ISD Stadium. This is an awesome experience for our students. Recently Valley Mills Elementary lost one of their students, Lily Avant. Our students wanted to support Valley Mills in recognizing Lily for being such an outstanding young person. On Thursday of last week our students wore something blue in support and our FCCLA organization made bracelets that said #lilystrong. In doing this the group raised over $550 dollars to donate to the family of Lily Avant. This action by our student body truly made this old principal proud. We are going to Valley Mills on Friday, September 26, to present this money to the principal, Chris Dowdy, and he can get it to the family. That is about if for this episode of P3. See you at the gym Friday night watching our volleyball teams take on Aquilla and then later at Pirate field for the HOCO game vs Rogers. As always come early, stay late and be loud.

Greetings from Pirate Nation! We are coming up to the end of #firsttwentydays, actually it ends on Sept 18th. Hopefully we have gotten in the swing of things and we are the ultimate house of learning. Maybe that should be the ultimate community of learning because it takes everyone involved to make sure our students get the best education they can. This Thursday our students are going to help out one of our neighbors by wearing something blue to school in honor of the Valley Mills student, Lily Avant, who passed away this past week. Blue was her favorite color. Valley Mills has ordered 600 blue t-shirts to wear in her honor on #lilystrong day. And we are going to support them in their efforts. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them. Tonight the volleyball team travels to Copperas Cove to take on the Bulldogs. The junior high and jv football team will play here on Thursday against Holland and the Pirates travel to Holland on Friday night to take on the Hornets. Prior to traveling to Holland, stop by the gym and see the #1 2A volleyball team take on Salado. On Wednesday some of our FFA students will go to the Veterans Hospital and greet some of our veterans and have animals there for them to see. Art Hunter and his students have been doing this for quite some time and the veterans really seem to enjoy it. Also Wednesday is the day that our students in grades 6-11 will take their school pictures. If they are absent that day there will be a retake later in the year. But make sure they comb their hair and smile for the camera. The senior class will take their portraits this Friday at school. So everyone gets into the camera action this week. Make sure you get ready for next week as it is Homecoming week. The parade will be on Wednesday, the Senior slide show will follow and the announcement of the football sweetheart will be made at the half-time of the Homecoming game against Rogers. There is always so much going on here at Crawford High School. Our students are very active in many different things and that makes for well rounded students and productive members of society. Thanks for all you do as parents in the district.

Greetings and Salutations to all of Pirate Nation! I hope this finds you well. We are still concentrating on the #firsttwentydays of school at the high school. We are focusing on trying to get things done right and establish how things are done. It is a work in progress but I am pleased with our efforts. This year the Class of 2020 is going to do a Senior Project. Our first thought is we want to try and do something for this community. In some way give back to the community for supporting all of the efforts of the Crawford Pirates. We are looking for good ideas to do. I have talked with several community members, parents and organizations and I have asked for their input on what that Senior Project may look like. I am asking you who read this to give us some input as well as what the Senior Project ideas could be. You can submit to me at email@example.com. We look forward to hearing from you. The gym is getting closer to being finished. It is really starting to look good. We will release information next week on when it will be available to host games, pep rallies and such. Stay tuned. The Pirates travel to Clifton tonight to take on the Cubs. Volleyball has an open date tonight. The junior varsity lost a tough game last night to Clifton. The junior high volleyball played at Bosqueville and defeated the Bulldogs. Way to go! The junior high football team will open up their season next week taking on Rice. They will play at Rice, can you say road trip? Cross country runs tomorrow in the Crawford Invitational. Come out and support our high school and junior high runners. That is about it for this week. See you tonight, be loud and be proud.

A couple of things on the horizon. Class pictures for grades 6-12 will be taken on Wednesday, September 18. Make sure everyone has a smile and their hair is neatly combed. Time is free but it's priceless. You can't own it but you can use it. You can't keep it but you can spend it. Once you've lost it you can never get it back. It's the most valuable commodity on earth yet most throw it away. Decide how you'll spend it or others will decide it for you. (Bob Shipley)

The Crawford Pirates had a great 3 day start to the school year. We must continue to build on that start and get better each day. We are focusing on the first twenty days to get everything down to a great routine and deliver the best education to our students. Crawford High School received an A of the state rating system for last year. There were only 3 schools in the region that received this distinction and Crawford High School was one of them. That is a tribute to the teachers and the students of this district. Parents you are very deserved there as well, way to go, way to go. Tonight we host Bremond in the " Meet the Pirates" scrimmage. The festivities start around 5:50 with the introduction of the Jr HI Cheerleaders and Jr Hi football teams. The JV will scrimmage at 6 pm.
